Saddle Mountain View Hike

Today, we went on a four mile hike with our friends, Dave and Joan. The Saddle Mountain View hike actually has beautiful views of Saddle Mountain, Sand Mountain, and Hans Peak. The trail was well marked but there were lots of downed trees blocking the way. We climbed over, crawled under, and went around lots of trees. This trail is north of Steamboat Springs near the small town of Clark where we had lunch after our hike. Clark is so small that it only has one building, but that building contains a deli/grill, grocery store, ice cream stand, US Post Office, library, and liquor store. It is a popular place to get a great lunch.

Dave and Joan Kersys

We’ve been friends with Dave and Joan for 37 years when Dave traveled from Manchester, England to work with me at Trammell Crow Company. Joan is also from Manchester and joined Dave a little later after they got married.

Coby and Aspen

Dave’s and Joan’s little Shih Tzu, Coby, and Aspen were good buddies on the hike. 4 miles was a lot for these little guys and they were pooped afterwards.

This trail has experienced lots of downed trees caused by big wind events called “blow downs”. There was one in the 90’s and another one just last year. Many trees were cleared with chain saws as you can see in the photo, however, many trees still lay across the trail and created challenges for us, but we kept going.

We made it to the top!

Pub Crawl

After the hike, we rewarded ourselves with a pub crawl. We took to the bus to town and started with a beer at Mountain Brewery. Then, we walked to Aurum and sat outside for another adult beverage. Our last stop was at Mambo where had dinner on the patio. It was a perfect evening.
